An enforced winter break has given Lowestoft Town a chance to prepare a push for the Ryman Premier play-offs.

The Blues were due to travel to Hendon in north-west London on Saturday but the match was postponed, denying them the chance to build on a 3-0 midweek win against East Thurrock United.

Now the Trawlerboys are due to play two home games in four days, hosting lowly Wingate & Finchley tomorrow before third-placed Wealdstone arrive in town on Tuesday night.

Joint manager Ady Gallagher appreciates that two successive matches at Crown Meadow offer his side a good chance to close the seven-point gap to the play-offs, but is still expecting two difficult games.

'I'm not looking too far ahead at the moment, we'll end up where we end up at the end of the season,' Gallagher said.

'We just need to focus on putting a good run of results together and getting on a decent run between now and the end of the season.

'We know if we do that we will have a great chance of making the play-offs but we have got to focus on each game as it comes.

'Having home games is great but we have just got to get our heads down and get a decent run going.'

Gallagher and joint bosses Micky Chapman and Craig Fleming should have a large squad to choose from, thanks to the unexpected 10-day break.

Saturday's postponement has allowed several injury knocks and illnesses to clear and midfielder Rossi Jarvis is in with a chance of being fit for the game, after missing the Eat Thurrock match with a hamstring pull.

Defender Curtis Haynes-Brown is also closing in on a return from a knee injury which has troubled him since December and both players will be assessed ahead of the match.

However, if there is more rain ahead of kick-off then the Crown Meadow pitch may not be playable and the enforced break could be extended even further.

'We've had so much rain in Lowestoft in the last week that it just depends how much rain we have before Saturday,' Gallagher added.

'Having spoken to the groundsman this morning (Thursday), he said we are not to train on the pitch and if the match was today then it wouldn't be played.

'There have been some games due to be played on the pitch which have been cancelled already this week.'

Wingate & Finchley ended a run of three straight defeats on Saturday when they won 3-1 at home against Thamesmead Town, to leapfrog them into 19th place.

'Like every team in this league really, they have some really good games and then some really poor games,' Gallagher said. 'We haven't found them easy to beat over the years, since the Ryman North years, and they are a very good, hard working side so I'm sure it will be another tough game.

'We've not found it easy to take points off them over the years so we know it will be difficult and they will be fired up to beat Lowestoft, like most teams in the league.'
