Lowestoft Town striker Bradley Woods-Garness was relieved to bag his first goal for the club in the Blues' 3-0 win over Leiston on Monday.

The 27-year-old's hard work in leading the line on his own was finally rewarded midway through the second half with a composed finish to get him off the mark following his summer move from Canvey Island.

Michael Frew had given Lowestoft the lead after coming off the substitutes' bench before Woods-Garness capitalised on some fine approach play from Erkan Okay to slot the ball home.

'It felt marvellous to be up and running at last. I thought I could have about four but I was battling away and I got one at last, even though I stole it from Erks,' joked Woods-Garness as Lowestoft capitalised on Jack Cawley's first half sending off to run riot in the second period. 'You've got to be patient when you're playing up front on your own. It's just about the team and you know you've got to put a shift in for the team first and foremost. We kept plugging away and made the most of the chances that came our way.'

Woods-Garness believes there is more to come from the Lowestoft strikeforce and hopes Jack Defty can come back from injury as soon as possible.

The former King's Lynn striker is currently recovering from a broken leg sustained last season but Woods-Garness is confident in forging a goal-laden partnership when Defty returns.

'When the big man comes back I think that will help my game a lot because he is such a handful for defenders,' he added. 'Hopefully that could free me up a bit and allow me to get in the pockets of space and play off him, which I like to do. We need him back as soon as possible because he is a handful. He's got to be 100pc fit though.'

Woods-Garness may have to wait a few more months yet for that partnership to form but insists he has no regrets over his move to Crown Meadow this summer.

The forward initially had reservations about the amount of travelling involved from his London home but the signing of Ashlee Jones, also from Canvey, helped pave the way for the move.

'I've got no regrets at all. I love the way the club is run – it is very professional and everyone has made me feel very welcome so it's a good decision all-round.

'The travelling is not so bad when I'm sitting in the passenger's seat next to Jonesy (Ashlee Jones). It's two hours but it's worth it when you're playing good football.'

Lowestoft go looking for their first away win of the season this weekend at Wingate & Finchley.
