Having taken their first British GT4 race victory in the previous round at Snetterton the Lotus Evora team of Gavan Kershaw and Oz Yuzuf chalked up another two podium places as the championship visited the Spa-Francorchamps circuit.

The daunting Belgian track suited the Norfolk built sportscar with Carlton Rode's Kershaw able to secure a third place starting slot and reported that: 'This track allows us to stretch the car's performance.'

A cautious start to the opening race from Yuzuf meant that Kershaw only caught up with the two leading Aston Martin's a couple of corners from the chequered flag.

Seeing a gap, Kershaw dived inside the two Astons to very nearly grab the lead to cross the line in second place, before being relegated a position for contacting one of the Astons in his manoeuvre.

'The two Astons ahead were holding each other up and defending which meant I could catch up with them,' explained Kershaw.

'On the last lap I could see the Beechdean Aston go for the lead around the outside so I went to the inside. There was a three-into-one moment and I emerged in second.'

Jake Giddings was less enthused about Kershaw's move, saying: 'On the second to last corner the Lotus came up the inside and hit us in the side, we spun half round but managed to regain it and keep third.'

Meanwhile Yuzuf was critical of his stint: 'We should have won but I drove terribly. I thought it was a lot wetter than it was so I drove very cautiously so if it wasn't for Gavan's great stint we wouldn't have taken second.'

Kershaw led away race two before handing over to Yuzuf but the pair were unable to stop Giddings and co-driver Ross Wylie from nipping ahead to demote the Lotus pair to second place.

'I got my head down and got a bit of a lead,' remarked Kershaw. 'In the end it was a comfortable second as Oz brought it home.'

Elsewhere, 'almost there, again', summed up a frustrated Richard Jenkins as the Norwich Locost racer again missed out on victory, a victim of race stoppages.

Jenkins qualified in third place for the latest Rockingham Speedway races which gave him pole position for the first race and in race two second spot on the grid.

Race one was stopped twice due to accidents and was therefore scrapped. Race two and a good start saw the local racer lead from the starting lights changing and built up a good gap to the chasing pack but all of his good work was nullified by another race stoppage.

At the restart Jenkins was unable to repeat his demon start and now suffering from understeer fought hard to cross the finishing line in second place.

'Got fastest overall lap and set a new track record for Rockingham, so happy with that,' remarked Jenkins afterwards, as he heads to Anglesey for the next round in the series.
