North Walsham remain in the bottom three despite an impressive victory at Brentwood in London 1N on Saturday.

The Vikings' delight at securing a crucial five points was tempered by news that relegation rivals Rochford Hundred had also won to stay one point ahead of the Norfolk side with two games left to play.

Walsham's cruel run of injuries continued when, within five minutes, Mark McCall – playing with a broken toe – was caught at the bottom of a ruck and suffered a broken tibia and dislocated ankle as players from both sides landed on him.

The team though, was galvanized and from the restart drove up the middle of the park. Quick ball went to Shane Van Vuuren whose cut out pass gave Stephen Hyde the slightest of spaces to accelerate through to score under the posts, with James Forrester adding the conversion.

Forrester then added a penalty to make it 10-0.

Robin Praat, on for McCall, showed great power and with the other forwards behind him got within inches, allowing Andy Tibbatts to pop it down under the posts for a 17-0 lead at half-time.

From the restart Walsham misfielded and from the scrummage Brentwood broke blind. They appeared to be free until Tibbatts arrived and a thumping tackle took Brentwood winger Amato into touch. Blyth put a quick throw to Nick Austin and he linked superbly with Hyde who raced away for another converted try.

This galvanized Brentwood and they camped in Walsham's 22m with Van Vuuren being yellow carded for offside. Retaining the ball the Brentwood forwards drew the defence and a quick release of the ball came to Thomas who put in a deft grubber kick that he fielded and popped down under the posts, reducing the deficit to 24-7.

Walsham responded with Forrester sidestepping his way through the Brentwood defence before accelerating away to score under the posts, adding the conversion himself.

Straight from the restart, the ball was collected by Walsham and pumped into the home side's 22, where Will Hodgson charged down a clearance to score, with the conversion making it 38-7.

Hyde completed his hat-trick soon afterwards, going over in the corner, with the conversion missing.

Tom Coller then found Van Vuuren who completed a passage of play he had started by touching down wide out, but too far to be converted, making it 48-7.

The Vikings completed the scoring when Chris Kent drew the final defender and passed to Tibbatts to touch down under the posts for the conversion to be scored.

North Walsham Raiders' winning run came to an end as they lost 26-15 at Diss III, with Seth Rodger scoring a try for Walsham.
