King's Lynn's manager search went global before Simon Clark emerged as the leading candidate to fire the Linnets' promotion bid next season.
Clark had two spells at The Walks as a player and returns after coaching stints at Notts County and Charlton, with another former Linnet, Sam Gaughran, part of his set-up.
Club owner Stephen Cleeve revealed on Wednesday at the pair's official unveiling there was Premier League interest, as well as overseas candidates keen to succeed Ian Culverhouse.
'There were people working in the Premier League in coaching roles who applied for the job here,' he said. 'The club is bigger than some realise, not the Lynn fans obviously, but it has a real cache.
'What it needed was the touch paper to set it alight and we saw last season the interest that can be generated and what that can do for the town and the football club.
'There was a high calibre of candidate from all walks of life, from the Premier League down.
'I had some from America, some from Spain, some from Asia and a few up the road. The reality is this club is held in high esteem by a lot of people. That was proven by the candidates we had.'
Clark, however, is now tasked with building on a near miss in the Southern League, Premier Division play-offs last season.
'His knowledge of players is fantastic, his coaching ability is very good. Tactically, he is excellent,' said Cleeve. 'He has had management experience and gone away from working at Worksop and Stamford to join a professional club and then work his way up from development level at Charlton.
'He even managed the first team at Charlton for a few weeks on a caretaker basis. Then he went to Notts County and worked with the Under-23s and a little bit with the first team so he has a lot of attributes.
'The coaching aspect is key for me, otherwise we can't bring players through. He has a track record of doing that. He worked with a player at Charlton who is now in the Premier League at Burnley.'
Cameron Norman has already left and another former Norwich City ace and Culverhouse signing, Simon Lappin, is poised to follow suit.
'We have lost Cameron Norman and one or two others but I don't envisage a massive change,' said Cleeve. 'In Cameron's case, that shows what we can do, in terms of bringing a player here who shines and can get a league deal.
'He went with our blessing and we hope he does well at Oxford United. Leon Mettam and Tom Siddons left for different reasons.
'Maybe one or two more will leave but hopefully the nucleus of the squad will stay together and we will look to add to that.'
