King's Lynn Town chairman Stephen Cleeve says a near 50pc increase in attendances is just reward for a philosophy of playing entertaining football.

The Linnets' average home league crowd this season is 798, compared to 544 last season - an increase of 46.69pc. It's the second highest average in the Southern League Premier, behind only former league club Hereford United (2,382) – and easily the biggest non-league crowd in Norfolk.

'I am delighted,' said Cleeve. 'Attendances are vital. You look at our historic attendances going back 10, 15 years and they were pretty good and we'd like to get back there frankly, and beyond. As a football club we are progressing on the right lines.

'It really is in some ways a business – if you play attractive football then people want to come and watch you. It's very much like if there is a big movie at the box office people want to go and see the stars. If you have a big thing going on here people want to come. If we were playing terribly boring football no one would want to come and watch.'
