Norfolk racer Robert Lambert hopes a new fitness regime can help him overcome his injury problems.

Despite winning three individual titles last year, the 19-year-old feels niggling injuries have been holding him back over the last couple of years.

King's Lynn Stars announced they have teamed up with Team GB coaches Chris Neville and Paul Suggitt in an exclusive speedway specific training programme which will benefit Stars' riders including Lambert.

He said: 'I have had some injuries in the past couple of years which have niggled away at me, I have been training lot and I have got some proper physio with a fitness structure which is great.

'I am really pleased with how it's all going so hopefully I will be fight fitting to start the season as long as I don't get injured in practice!'

The Stars last reached the play-offs in 2014 and the young Brit is in no doubt that this is something that needs to be put right this year.

Lambert said: 'The first season I rode here we were so close to winning silverware and then we seemed to slip down the league every year after that. It was great to win the Premiership Pairs last year but as a club we need to build on that by qualifying for the play-offs this year.

'We have a good team that's been put together and it's great to have a group of riders where you know everyone because they are a great bunch of lads.

'I think we can really get on well as a group both on and off the track.'

Despite racing in three leagues across Europe, Lambert is hoping he can add to the European and British under-21 titles he won last year.

He added: 'There are a lot of competitions that I am involved in again this year. I have the World and European under-21s, British under-21s and British final. I want to get as many medals and podiums as possible. I also want to win club honours in England, Sweden and Poland.

'Looking at the logistics side of things, it's good to have the fixed race nights in the UK because now I can focus of racing without meetings popping up here, there and everywhere.'

The Stars open their campaign on Monday, April 2, with a Knockout Cup trip to Leicester.
