Rob Lyon has backed growing calls for Richie Worrall to be named in Great Britain's World Cup squad.

The King's Lynn Stars boss believes his rider should be included in the Team GB outfit that will be announced at some point in the next few days.

Yet the former national-team manager admits he isn't sure whether Neil Middleditch will include the in-form 21-year-old in his line-up.

Lyon said: 'Middlo's got his own thoughts on what he wants, and obviously I have my own thoughts. But mine would probably be different to what his are. I'd certainly be putting the kids in here because he's got nothing to lose.

'Give Craig Cook and Richie Worrall a chance, they'll only learn from the experience. But it's Middlo's position to decide that and we have to respect that and he'll pick what he thinks is the right team.'

The Merseysider would certainly have home advantage if he was picked for Britain's World Cup Event Two clash at the Norfolk Arena against Denmark, Sweden and USA on July 15. And he scored a huge 18-point maximum in his last meeting at Saddlebow Road to help clinch an impressive 53-37 win over league leaders Wolverhampton Wolves.

Lyon added: 'Richie was absolutely outstanding. He's from motorcross and generally the motorcross boys can trap (gate) – he's one of the best at it. He's a great rider and hopefully he will move up the speedway ladder in years to come.'
