King's Lynn's Kenneth Bjerre performed well on his return to the Speedway Grand Prix scene on a night debutant Martin Smolinski will never forget.
The Stars' Dane reached the semi-finals and collected 11 points in the opening round in New Zealand. Team-mate, and last year's number three Niels-Kristian Iversen, scored a disappointing six.
But the evening belonged to German Smolinski who shot from fourth to first to win gold during his first ever GP. Smolinski passed Nicki Pedersen – who tops the standings after collecting 19 points - Krzysztof Kasprzak and Freddie Lindgren to win the final.
