King's Lynn have released defender Jamie Alsop.
Town's management confirmed the news late on Tuesday morning after speaking to the reliable left-back. Joint boss Kevin Boon underlined the defender's exit was purely for budgetary reasons. Alsop had been offered an improved deal but during initial discussions was looking for compensation to cover for changed working circumstances.
'I'm disappointed in losing Jamie but we have to make the budget work,' said Boon. 'We had to go out and sign new players and we just feel we have lads who can play in that position. We have the likes of Pat Bexfield, Danny Buhlemann and Tom McLeish who is coming through. We have to respect what Buster and Jonathan (Chapman) have done for us with the budget and we simply can't make it fit.
'It is a hard decision but that is what management is all about. Jamie had a quality season but we had to make the pennies move. Pat is on contract and he played 30 or 40 games for Norwich City reserves at left-back. I'm happy to say Jamie was happy was to re-negotiate in regard to his work commitments but we simply can't fit him into the budget now.'
