There was an agonising near miss of a podium place for north Norfolk triathlete Kimberley Morrison at Ironman Texas.

After success in the half-distance Ironman 70.3 events in recent years, including winning the women's event in Texas and Buenos Aires, the 30-year-old has set her sights on qualifying for the World Ironman Championships in Kona, Hawaii in October.

Morrison, from Bale, near Fakenham, finished eighth in the professional women's race, out of 612 women in total, and 77th of 2,346 overall at the course north of Houston.

The Tri-Anglia member finished the 2.4-mile swim in 56 minutes and 23 seconds, the 112-mile cycle in 04: 27.46 hours and then the 26.2-mile marathon run in 03:21.55 hours for a total finishing time of 08:50.59 hours.

'A fantastic second go at the Ironman distance, very tough dropping from second position in the final five miles of the marathon,' Morrison said. 'I was running ambitious with my heart set on that Championship Podium.'
