The fifth and final Suffolk Winter League Cross Country event took place at Haughley Park, Stowmarket on March 4 and saw the culmination of a hard but successful season for the Bungay Black Dog runners.

In the junior race of 59 runners, Kieran McMorran was second in 11 minutes 16 seconds and second overall in the boys' under-17.

Ted Oldman was third (11.42) and second overall in the boys' under-15, and Marcus Sladden was seventh.

Consequently, the boys' team was top overall of the 13 running clubs involved.

The girls' team was fifth of the 10 clubs running, with Jessica Sparkes 46th (17.00) and second overall in the girls' under-13.

Together, the boys and girls achieved a very impressive second overall in the Winter League.

In the senior race, with 176 runners, there were four overall individual winners.

Lynn Emmett, 50th in 38.59, was first in the F40 category. Bobbie Sauerzapf was 136th (48.13) and first in the F50, Judy Potter was 162nd (54.23) and first in the F65, while Robin Farrar, 170th in 57.54, was first in the M65. Richard Rhodes, 42nd, was the first Black Dog home (38.12) and third in the M50.

The women's team was fourth of 17 clubs, the men 11th and combined, the teams were 10th.

• On Sunday, three Black Dogs completed the Newton's Fraction Half Marathon in Lincolnshire at Grantham, with four miles along the canal towpath.

Chris Chorley was 50th in 1:33.00, Bobbie Sauerzapf 172nd (1:50) and Shona Bendix 268th (1:58). There were 383 finishers.
