North Norfolk triathlete Kimberley Morrison came fourth in the Ironman 70.3 Texas.

Morrison won the title last year, but while she missed out on a podium place in Galveston this time, she finished exactly four minutes faster in four hours, 11 minutes and 40 seconds.

Morrison, from Bale, near Fakenham, was 3:15 back in fifth after the water, but made up ground on the bike. By the midpoint she was clear at the front, leading by almost two and a half minutes – a lead she would extend to 3:47.

Morrison's running has been a work-in-progress for several seasons now, but she was chased down by a trio of talented rivals. Two-time Ironman 70.3 world champion Melissa Hauschildt was the quickest of her chasers, but Morrison held off the pass until around the mid-point of the half marathon. Shortly after, Heather Wurtele passed the Brit too and at the 10-mile mark, Mirinda Carfrae moved into third. Hauschildt took the win while Carfrae passed Wurtele for second.
