We've been so close to getting more points from away meetings this season it's only increased our sense of frustration.

We've had the injuries. We've had the bad decisions. We've had two points docked. You name it, we've probably had it. But to make matters worse, we've been close to losing by six points or less on a host of occasions (which earns one league point) – and not quite done it.

I can think of so many matches that we could and should have come home with something from. Eastbourne on Monday (53-39 loss), Lakeside (43-50) and Belle Vue (40-50) to name three. Had we of nicked points from those, and at some other places, while still losing, we'd be much, much closer to the play-offs now.

When you can't win you need to keep adding to the total. And we just haven't been doing it. Yes, at times we haven't been good enough. And we should have got points. But the whole situation just makes for an even more frustrating year.

The only positives I can see from our loss at Eastbourne is the continued form of Niels-Kristian Iversen and Rory Schlein's return. Niels is our only rider not to get injured but that's because he's racing so well he's staying out of trouble.

It's been another fantastic season for him personally at Lynn and he's going really well in the Grand Prix. He just needs to be backed up by the rest of us and he's just not getting enough support.

It was nice to see Rory back on a bike. You could see he was in discomfort (on comeback from dislocated ankle, initially diagnosed as a broken leg after a medical error) and Eastbourne is a tricky track. It was pretty bumpy. Hopefully it'll be easier for him tonight at home against Coventry Bees.

Our reserves (Nicklas Porsing and guest Adam Ellis), try as they might, struggled. But you can't blame Nicklas. He's still getting used to our weird-shaped tracks. They're so different to the big open ones he's ridden on in Denmark and Poland. We need to try and get riders like him going to give us any hope of ending in the top four – which is looking less and less unlikely as each week passes.

But we'll keep on fighting. You only needed to see Rory at Eastbourne to know that we're giving it everything. It's just not happening for us right now.

I definitely want him here next year with me and Niels. I'd like Rob (Lyon, team boss) to build a side from that base. Rory's enjoying his speedway again after some difficult years at clubs like Belle Vue and I know he's happy here. King's Lynn haven't seen the best of him yet – but I'm sure we will.
