Defender Ross Watson insists he can shake off a back injury in time for King's Lynn Town's home match with Newcastle Town on Saturday.

The Linnets right-back was replaced by Charlie Butt during his side's 2-1 weekend win at Gresley after hurting himself early in the second-half.

But the Peterborough-based scaffolder, who works for his family business, has been taking it easy since the weekend and is confident he can avoid a spell on the treatment table.

Watson: 'I was a little bit stiff before the game but I'll play through anything. It takes a lot to keep me off the field. At about 50 minutes my back just locked and I kicked the ball out of the ground. I couldn't move it and I was in a lot of discomfort. I had to come off as I didn't want to do any more damage to what is an important area of my body.

'I want to be playing so I've been enjoying the benefits of working with family. I've really been taking it easy and doing office-based work. I've been pottering around to help get myself ready for Saturday. I'm doing everything to get myself sorted.

'My back feels a million times better and I've got a lot more movement already. I can still feel it a bit but I'm on good tablets which I'm taking six or seven times a day. Plus, I'm in good hands with Phil Ward (physio) too.

'I'd never rule myself out 15 minutes before a game, let alone five or six days before one. If I'm struggling I'll be honest but the gaffer (Gary Setchell) knows I'd run through brick walls for him.'

The 24-year-old, who captained Lynn at centre-back last term, has made 28 starts for Setchell's high-fliers this term. And he has enjoyed the chance to bomb forward past right-winger Steve Spriggs and join in Lynn's attacks on a regular basis this campaign.

'I've played right-back before but not for a whole season. The gaffer has brought in some great centre-halves,' said Watson.

'For me, Phil Gulliver has been one of his best signings. We've had Ryan Fryatt doing well and Jason Lee who has proved people wrong. But I don't think I was pushed out. I think the gaffer thought right-back is my best position. I think I've had my most consistent season for Lynn.

'I've had my critics, and everyone's entitled to their opinion, but the only one that matters to me is the gaffer's.

'I feel very fit and sharp and I've worked extra hard to get myself in that position and give the gaffer a headache.

'We're at a great club where we are strengthening all the time. But I don't want him feeling he has to strengthen and bring in another player in my position.'
