England Under-19s coach Brian Eastick has revealed how Martin Hunter's link with the international set-up helped teen striker Chris Martin earn his first cap this week.

Canaries coach Hunter left his job as England's Under-19s coach to move to Carrow Road last summer, but clearly hasn't forgotten his old employers at the FA.

“It's an interesting situation because Chris hasn't been in our system with England, and he really came to my attention on the recommendation of Martin Hunter, who was with us until last year,” said Eastick, who was rewarded for calling up Martin when the 18-year-old scored the only goal of the game against Turkey on Wednesday.

“Martin left last summer to work with Norwich and he told me that we needed to take a look at Chris. We have monitored him over the last few months so it is nice for him to come in and get a taste of international football and get the goal as he did.”

“It was nice to nick it at the end and take the victory and I was pleased for Chris to score the goal. He's got a very good goalscoring record at the moment. I think he has started seven consecutive games and scored four goals, and he took his goal well.”
