Holt completed their preparations for the new league campaign with a victory over a Beccles side with whom they swapped places at the end of last season.

After conceding an early penalty Holt got themselves into the game and following a blind side break, Woods finished off a good move with a try to gain a 5-3 lead after 13 minutes.

Holt maintained the pressure, with Young finishing off a move four minutes later and by converting his own try the lead had increased to 12-3. Then, following a five metre scrum, Jarry-Ryan added his name to the scorers and with Young adding the points the half finished with Holt leading 19-3. Holt extended their lead with a Young penalty but Beccles came back at the hosts strongly, being rewarded with a converted try two minutes later, reducing the deficit to 22-10.

Holt's perseverance was further rewarded three minutes later with another Young penalty and for the remainder of the game, their defensive skills were again put to the test. But they saw out the game after being given a taste of what to expect when they start their London Division 2N campaign on Saturday, away to Woodford. Their opponents will be an unknown quantity, other than they have played at level seven for a number of seasons.
