Bryony Bennett-Lloyd of Hickling Broad Sailing Club made her mark at an international event in Italy.

Bryony and her sailing partner Annabel Cattermole formed part of the Great Britain 420 Tailored Support Squad at the Imperial Winter Regatta.

They won the Ladies Fleet and the Junior Ladies and, for good measure, beat the 2012 World Champions.

One of four teams from the GB National youth squad competiting in Italy, consistency was the key to their success.

Starting with a second place, the eight following races saw them gain two more seconds, a third, and a fourth to put them three points clear of Ilaria Paternoster and Elisabetta Di Salle, Italian current ISAF Champions, with another Italian pairing third followed by three Spanish teams.

Bryony, who won the 2010 Topper World Championships at Lake Garda in 2010 and, having moved up to the 420 class, the British end of seasons at Grafham last month, said: 'We knew we had the speed and tactics necessary but had no idea how hard we would have to work to achieve a top position. We aimed for a top ten in every race, that's just about what we did.'

Her crew, Annabel, also moved across from Toppers at the end of 2010. Next year promises to be a very exciting for them, with the ISAF World Championship ion Cyprus, and the small matter of their A levels.

Closer to home another almost perfect Sunday saw 23 boats out on the two rivers, the only disappointment being that another 4 or 5 knots wind would have been ideal.

The light south-westerly gave Snowflakes the usual problems as they sailed up Swan reach, but, once round, it improved, building up during the first race to something near Force 2.

On a generally easy day only two boats made life difficult for themselves. Patrick Richardson and Gary Ross both started well, but had missed a late small but vital change to the course, and went for the wrong mark, thereby setting themselves back, compounded by Richardson when he ran aground.

The following pack, led by Q Stewart and Ian Hanson, gratefully accepted the largesse this offered, while Richardson and his crew Julia Bennett, gained some consolation by winning the second.

At Frostbites the 11 Norfolks were joined by joint rear commodore Bruce Thompson's Bittern, but the winds were not enough to give him much chance against a strong ebb current. Kevin and Ellis Edwards were always in control of the first race, while their nearest rivals Kate and David Mackley enjoyed a two minute advantage over David Yapp and Jan Hubbard in the second, handicap, event.
