Swaffham's players have held a clear-the-air meeting to help turn their troubled club's fortunes around.

The Greene King Eastern Counties Division One outfit suffered the embarrassment of faililng to fulfil two fixtures before raising a side for Saturday's trip to Woodbridge. A 10-8 victory at Woodbridge was the perfect response to a worrying couple of weeks and now skipper Marc Lockwood hopes to see more signs of stability when Swaffham host Wisbech tomorrow.

'It's been a bit hit and miss so far. We've had a bit of disappointment with uncertainty over our coaches,' said captain Marc Lockwood.

'That's been sorted out now so we've got to move on from there. You always just want to turn up and play a game of rugby. It's all our hobby. We give up our spare time to do it and not to be able to field a team was really disappointing for us.

'We've just got to come together as a team basically and move forward together. There was a bit of animosity from inbetween certain camps within the club but we had a players' meeting last week and it was all positive from there and obviously we managed to get a team together on Saturday, put in a good performance, and get a win down at Woodbridge.'

Joint-coach Stuart Low has stepped down from his position due to work commitments leaving ex-captain Ryan Gladman and stalwart Des Lloyd to join forces with Francis Donaghy in trying to steady the ship.

The North Pickenham Road outfit have won two of their opening six matches and go into the weekend's fixtures with exactly the same record as relegated Wisbech. They've had a slow start too but manager Cliff Humphreys is confident the Fenlanders are finding their feet again after a disappointing start to the campaign.

He said: 'Saturday's 36-3 win over Ipswich YM, who were third, has set a benchmark. It must do. Both Leonard (Veenendaal, coach) and I, Leonard especially, knows we've got the talent within the squad to hold our own within this league.

'It's just a question of getting the guys motivated and bought into the fact about what we're trying to achieve, which we do think they have now.'
