Hayley Turner currently spends as much time as a TV racing presenter as she does race riding, but the jockey delighted a big Great Yarmouth crowd when scoring on Lady Freyja.

Turner got the filly home in an exciting seven-furlong contest which saw five in line across the track inside the final furlong.

But it was crowd favourite Turner, riding for John Ryan, who won at 4/1.

'It was easier than it looked. She jumped out and did it well. I know she was bottom weight, but she was up in grade. She is a big, sweet mare,' said Turner.

Great Yarmouth's other favourite jockey, Frankie Dettori, had one ride, on Ode To Autumn in the feature, the Moulton Nurseries Handicap worth £19,000, but failed to deliver.

Dettori, on John Gosden's three-year-old, led with two furlongs to go but was overhauled by 5/2 chance Kassar under Kieran Shoemark for trainer Roger Charlton.

Another female jockey to triumph was Jane Elliott on Peace Prevails, a 3/1 chance who took the fillies' handicap over 11 furlongs, arriving with a well-timed run to lead through the final furlong.

The filly was running for Newmarket trainer Ed Vaughan for the second time, having been runner-up at the course a fortnight earlier and beat the heavily-backed Fresh Terms.

There was a shock in the opening five furlong handicap when 11/1 chance Haveoneyerself scored under champion apprentice David Egan for trainer John Butler. The colt was last but one at Windsor earlier this week but took it up after a furlong and held on to win. Clearly relishing the firm ground, Haveoneyerself recorded 59.74 seconds for the minimum trip, beating the course record set in 2002.

Three non-runners left just three in the six-furlong novice stakes, won easily by Luke Morris on trainer James Tate's Autumn Splendour, returned at 1/8.

Morris completed a double when Sir Mark Prescott's Matchmaking, making his handicap debut over 10 furlongs, got up at 100/30 to beat Broken Force, who led by eight lengths turning into the straight.

The day's biggest field of nine battled it out over a mile in the finale, with honours going to Wild Acclaim under Rossa Ryan for Phil McEntee. The gelding won at the course a fortnight ago and followed up at 7/2.
