King's Lynn Town boss Gary Setchell believes his side will need to put in more away performances like they did on Saturday to achieve their dream of reaching the play-offs.

The Linnets ground out a 1-0 victory at Northwich Victoria and in the process claimed their first league clean sheet on the road this term. The Lynn manager admits his men will need to replicate their weekend display in the weeks to come to ensure they secure a top-five finish in Evo-Stik Division One South.

Setchell, who watched the game from the press box as he sat out the first of his two-game touchline ban, said: 'It's an unbelievable three points. Not just with the lay-off we've had, coming off the back of a big (FA) Trophy run, but because I thought the lads were absolutely first class. Every single one of them.

'First half we started a bit slowly but once we got to grips with it we defended like lions. It's our first clean sheet away from home in the league so credit to the boys. It was a big team effort. The subs came on and played their part as well.

'The effort and desire the players showed again was different class. We're going to need another 10 of them (performances). That's how away games are. This league is about being resilient, tough, being strong and having players that can hurt teams.

'We've scored from a set piece today which was something off the training ground which is also more than pleasing.'

Captain Richard Bunting's volley from Steve Spriggs' corner helped Lynn secure their second 1-0 league triumph over Victoria this season.

But the skipper was soon sent off, after scoring his first goal for the Linnets, for a second bookable offence and his manager was unhappy that it took some of the gloss off a fine victory.

Setchell said: 'I'm delighted for Bunts and sad for him because he shouldn't have been sent off. I thought he was immense all afternoon, him and Quigz (Quigley) in the middle of the park. For him to get sent off – he didn't get one decision go for him.

'I don't know what the referee had against him. That's the only disappointment but the lads kept the three points for him which was pleasing.

'You then look at Shane Tolley. He played up front on his own. He worked his socks off. We then asked him to go and play right midfield when we went down to 10 and he worked his socks off again.

'We've got an unbelievable work ethic at our football club and they're a great group to work with.'
