A much changed Lowestoft side scraped into the fourth round of the Alan Boon Cup with an unconvincing 1-0 victory at Maldon and Tiptree last night.

The Blues scored what proved to be the only goal of the game after 20 minutes when Dale Cockrill converted from the penalty spot after Joe Francis had been brought down in the area.

The hosts came closest to equalising early in the second half when Jake Wiffin's effort rebounded off an upright while Lowestoft later hit the woodwork themselves, Stuart Ainsley's strike coming back off an upright.

A Blues side containing a number of fringe players and a couple of under-18s then saw the game out to stretch their winning run in all competitions to an impressive six matches.

• Lowestoft: Jessup, Knights, Whiteside, Ainsley, Gaughran, Manning, Forbes (Guentchev), Cockrill, Onuchukwu, Forshaw, Francis (Henderson). Subs not used: Fleming, Smith, Carolan.
