Boss Cliff Humphreys believes his Wisbech side's fighting spirit will be needed when they do battle at Wanstead today.

The Harecroft Road manager is expecting a fierce clash in London as his side go in search of their first away victory in London North-East Division Three.

Having inflicted league leaders Upminster's first defeat of the season on Saturday, Humphreys is demanding Wisbech show the same courage and bravery when the head to the capital.

'There's a fighting spirit here that I haven't quite seen before if I'm honest,' said the Wisbech boss.

'In all of our three games, and we've won two of them, we've gone down early. In the past, our heads would have dropped. However, this season, the fighting spirit is definitely here and it will stand us in good stead.

'We'll need it at places like Wanstead. It's quite intense down there. They don't take any prisoners. I remember not really enjoying being on the sidelines because it was like a cauldron.

'They've been in the league for a few seasons so it will be tough. They're a strong side. But so far, every man who has played for us hasn't let their team-mates down. We'll give a good account of ourselves and we'll try our best. A win on the road would do our confidence the world of good.'

Ben Wicks, Neil Hunt and Tom Long - who all made their first starts of the season in third-placed Wisbech's 20-15 victory over Upminster - will miss the game.

Tom Martell, Ben Chapman and Jon Turner are set to return to Humphreys' squad. Andy Claydon is rated as 50/50 after missing Wisbech's second win in three games last weekend with an ankle problem.

Another side who will be looking to pick up their maiden victory on the road are Greene King Eastern Counties Division One high-fliers West Norfolk.

Nigel Richardson's men sit second having also won two of their opening three matches of the campaign. They visit struggling Thurston, who are second from bottom, this afternoon but the Wests' boss insists he's not taking the Suffolk side for granted.

Richardson said: 'We won't be taking the match lightly just because they're towards the bottom of the table. We made that mistake last year.

'We need to carry on doing what we're doing in matches because our fitness is coming through in the end, like it did when we beat Harwich (& Dovercourt) 48-28 at the weekend.

'It's a testament to Marc Foreman (coach), Lee Parry (coach), Richard Bailey (fitness coach) and the players for working so hard in the summer and they're getting their rewards now.

'We're looking to go there and pick up our first away win. Now Cantabrigian and Wisbech are not in the league (after getting promoted), so far, it looks wide open.'

Richardson is hopeful No.8 Tui Ulaiasi may return after missing the last two games through work commitments.
