City boss Peter Grant will wait until after a morning training session before settling on his line-up for the Carling Cup first round tie against Barnet at Carrow Road tomorrow (7.45pm).

He admitted a few of his squad had felt the effects of their first Coca-Cola Championship outing of the season - Saturday's 0-0 draw at Preston - but there were no major problems beyond those catching up from the after-effects of last week's stomach ailment.

He said: “A few of the boys didn't train yesterday. We'll give them all until the last minute. I'll have to bring them back in tomorrow which I don't really like doing on the morning of the game.

“Whether changes get forced upon me, we'll see. Some of the performances on Saturday, I got frustrated with. I know they've done much better and are capable of doing much better. But in the cold light of day I should be very pleased with what we got at the weekend.”

Grant ruled out a quick return to action for Darren Huckerby, yet to figure because of a groin strain.

He said: “The big improvement is that he's on the training field, not with us but doing his running. That's an important step for us. But until he's 100 per cent and there's no pain, he won't be on the training pitch with the rest of us, it's as simple as that.

“He's a big player for us in the squad but I don't want to put Darren's next few months in jeopardy for the sake of bringing him forward a week or two.”

The City boss is determined to field his strongest possible side against Barnet, with no plans to rest key players.

He said: “There is no other way. We're here to win games - nothing else. You're here to go as far in the Cup as you possibly can. I want to win every game we play.”
