Gary Setchell yesterday boosted King's Lynn Town's attacking options by signing teenage striker Sam Mulready on loan.

The highly-rated Gainsborough Trinity frontman put pen to paper on a deal – which could see him remain at The Walks until the end of the season – before joining his new team-mates for training.

The 19-year-old arrives with a huge reputation having earned a professional contract at Grimsby Town before making a name for himself in the non-league game.

Setchell said of his new recruit, who lives in Lynn: 'He's a pacy striker – an out-and-out goalscorer. He's little, is very sharp in around the box, and is a clinical finisher.

'He's quick, nippy and has a good eye for goal. I'm sure he will get in positions where he can put the ball in the net for us.

'He's out of contract next summer and he'll be looking to come here and do well. He's still has ambitions to get back into the pro game, so what better place to play your football at right now than your hometown club, in front of your home fans. I'm sure he'll enjoy it here.'

Mulready's already impressed out on loan this term after scoring on his debut for United Counties League Holbeach United. He went on to bag a handful of goals for them before injury curtailed his fine form.

The young hitman expressed his delight at the move when he said on Twitter: 'Just signed on the dotted line. Excited to have a loan at Lynn. Hopefully it will be successful personally and for the team #goals'.

Mulready joins Russell Dunkley, Jason Turner, Danny Beaumont and Jamie Forshaw in competing for starring roles up front for Setchell's high-flying Lynn – who play two levels below Blue Square North Trinity.

Despite Mulready's arrival, the Lynn boss said it is unlikely to signal anyone else's departure from The Walks, for now at least.

Setchell said: 'Sam gives us another option and will add an extra dimension. I'm just looking to freshen things up a little bit and no one will be leaving immediately.

'I've made enquiries about him before and Gainsborough are happy for him to be here. We're happy to have him because Stamford were keen on him I believe.

'I know about him, he's a good goalscorer, and John Chand (manager) at Holbeach gave glowing reports about him. He, and Gainsborough, believe he can do a job at Step Four, and so do I.'

Mulready – who has also had loan spells at fellow Evo-Stik Division One South side Brigg Town and Boston United – should go into the squad for Lynn's home FA Trophy second qualifying round tie against Carshalton Athletic tomorrow.
