It was another Boxing Day to forget for Ryan Fryatt as 10-man Lynn tasted more derby misery.

The young defender – sent off on December 26 at Brigg Town last year – was red carded as the Linnets crashed to their second loss at Kettering Road in 2013.

He was dismissed for denying a goalscoring opportunity in the 41st minute when Stamford were already ahead thanks to Jon Challinor's early goal. And with about 50 minutes left to play they were always fighting a losing battle against their fellow promoted team – even if they sit much lower in the table.

Challinor bagged his second with almost the last kick of the first half and while the visitors responded excellently after the interval, Daniel Lawlor made it three to seal his team's festive triumph.

Gary Setchell's troops were looking to build on their fine victory over high-flying AFC Fylde. It was such an impressive display that Lynn's gaffer named the same starting XI that had performed so admirably on Saturday.

However, the men from Norfolk were considerably less impressive from the off this time round and fell behind – thanks to some sloppy defending – in the sixth minute.

Ex-Linnet Jordan Smith was left unmarked from a corner and should have scored. His header was blocked, but it didn't matter as Challinor buried the rebound.

The Linnets responded well to the setback and while it was scrappy, they were territorially dominant for a while. A moment of class, involving Jack McGovern's crossfield pass and Andy Hall's clever knockdown, created an opening for Dan Quigley. Yet goalie Alex Lynch raced off his line quickly to deny the all-action midfielder.

Marc Goodfellow and Massiah McDonald saw shots blocked as the away team tried to turn the screw. At the other end some more fantastic defending – this time from Jason Lee – denied Challinor a clear route to goal.

It was the Daniels who appeared to possess that little bit of magic in the final third. And that was proved again when Smith jinked his way into a pocket of space before unleashing a delightful curling chip which beat Liam Mitchall all ends up. Unfortunately for him the ball cannoned back off Lynn's crossbar.

The festive derby continued in a huff and puff vein as the half wore on with Lynn hanging on in there admirably. Fryatt's goal-saving block denied Shawn Richards after Mitchell had spilled Charlie Binns' centre.

For all their troubles around their own area, Setchell's side still looked threatening in Stamford's box. Hall was inches away from making it 1-1 but his low drive struck the foot of his former club's post.

While that was disappointing for the travelling faithful, the next key incident was disastrous. The imperious Richards skipped past a couple of weak challenges and was scythed down by Fryatt as he powered towards the danger zone. Lynn's young defender was the last man and therefore, rightly, given his marching orders.

Jason Field went mightily close to doubling the reds' advantage from the resulting free-kick. That said, it didn't take long for the Lincolnshire outfit to press home their numerical advantage when Challinor finished off a sweeping move on the stroke of half-time to leave Lynn facing an uphill battle.

Goodfellow and McDonald made way for Jake Jones and Rob Duffy at the interval and The Walks outfit soon found themselves camped in opposition territory.

Quigley, Duffy twice, and Hall – who at least stretched Lynch – spurned half chances. Had one of them found the net things could have been so different. But as the 10 men poured forward in search of a way back into the game they were always going to be susceptible.

Smith struck the bar as the Daniels threatened a third. And they found it when Nabil Shariff's cut back was sidefooted into the bottom corner by Lawlor to put the gloss on his club's latest triumph over Lynn.

The hat-trick chasing Challinor, Smith and Ryan Walker all failed to add salt into the Linnets' wounds as they missed the target in the closing stages. But by then the damage had already been done.
