Joint-manager Ady Gallagher was delighted to see his depleted side earn their reward for showing the 'Lowestoft spirit' on Saturday.

The injury-hit Trawlerboys came from 2-0 down to beat Enfield with a late winner from Michael Frew.

And Gallagher believes it was no more than his side deserved: 'I'm really pleased for the boys because the squad has been stretched to the limit,' he said.

'We have shown strength and spirit in other games and not got what we have deserved, but on Saturday we showed tremendous spirit to come from 2-0 down. It was a bitterly cold day and things were not going our way, but we showed guts and determination.

'There are not too many teams in the league who could cope with having seven or eight first choice players out, it has been a dire situation for us, but all we can do is try and stay in touch with the leaders.

'What's really pleasing is that the boys who have come in have been brilliant and risen to the challenge. They have had the proper Lowestoft spirit and have rolled their sleeves up and got on with it.'

Blues striker Jack Defty was denied early on by a superb save from Enfield keeper Daniel East, before the hosts took the lead on 11 minutes as Jonathan Hunt's free-kick fizzed into the net.

Adam Wallace doubled Enfield's advantage in the 25th minute as he beat Lowestoft keeper Andrew Plummer in a one-on-one.

Defty's header four minutes later reduced the arrears and Lowestoft drew level two minutes after half-time when Chris Henderson fired home from close range.

Lowestoft went on to dominate the second half and Frew forced another fine save from East.

But eight minutes from time Enfield failed to deal with a corner and Frew finished from close range to clinch the points for the visitors.

Gallagher also praised the contribution of debutant Curtley Williams – and reported some brighter news on the injury front: 'Adam Smith should return to training this week and Andy Reynolds is getting closer, along with Greg Crane,' he said.

'Dale Cockrill was ill on Saturday but should be okay on Wednesday against Cray Wanderers, although Lee Smith is unav ailable for three games. Stuart Ainsley is also getting closer. They're all big players for us and when we get them back it will be nice to have some selection problems of the right kind.'
