East Anglia Tennis & Squash Club's Grade 4 Easter tournament was blessed with good weather, allowing the 120 entrants to play their 244 matches unhindered.

East Anglia Tennis & Squash Club's Grade 4 Easter tournament was blessed with good weather, allowing the 120 entrants to play their 244 matches unhindered.

Players travelled from Suffolk, Cambridge and Essex to add variety to the competition.

Most of the events went according to seeding, with one notable exception by unseeded Charlotte Groves, who beat No 1 seed Tara Hall in the 16/u girls' singles.

In the 14/u girls' event, Olivia Nicholls, No 3 seed, had a good win against No 1 seed Maddison Jones, from Suffolk and Harry Weeds, seeded No 3, beat the No 2 and No 4 seeds to win the 14/u boys' event.

Next year, referee Derek Perry hopes to upgrade the event to Grade 3 to give more ranking points to competitors.

Norfolk players displayed some fine tennis at the Ariel 12/u tournament held at Lakenham.

Dayna Rice beat Natalie Bacon to win the event, while Georgia Moyes beat Bronte Farrage in the third/fourth place play-off.

Two boys from Suffolk contested the event final, Sam Fowler emerging the victor over Max Darrington while Joshua Trett came third, beating Alex Fage, from Buckinghamshire.

Following a successful year in 2006, Pilch is continuing its sponsorship of the Norwich Junior Parks tournament, which has long been a popular part of the season. It is scheduled to be played on grass courts at Pinebanks, Thorpe St Andrew, commencing August 6 and has retained its LTA Grade 4 ranking status.

The 2006 tournament attracted 130 entries from Norfolk and much further afield and was supplemented by a successful mini-tennis tournament. By including the

mini-tennis the tournament can cater for all age groups of boys and girls from 8 to 18.
