Poor finishing cost Dereham the points as they went down 2-1 at Great Wakering Rovers in a re-arranged Bostik league North game.
Joe Gatting went close for the visitors early on before Wakering's Adam Vyse laid the ball off to Jake Gordon who hammered home an unstoppable 20 yard drive for the opening goal.
Wakering increased their lead in the 38th minute. Vyse's quickly taken free-kick sent George Cox through and he progressed before placing the ball into the far corner.
The Magpies should have pulled a goal back minutes later. Danny Beaumont put Adam Hipperson through but after rounding keeper Tim Brown he fired over.
In the 57th minute Dereham won a free-kick on the left and Beaumont's centre reached Dion Frary who glanced the ball home to reduce the deficit. The visitors missed a great chance to level in the 74th minute when Hipperson ran through but his low drive was blocked and Gatting lifted the ball over the bar with the goal at his mercy.
