Great Yarmouth's Michael Allard made sure it was a finale to remember at King's Lynn's Norfolk Arena.
Having enjoyed his first success on the loose-surface shale tracks since graduating to saloon stock cars from banger racing, Allard went on to be involved in a dramatic crash in the last race of the night, the allcomers. His car rolled end-over-end, balancing briefly on its nose, before crashing back onto its wheels.
That he walked away unscathed is testament to the cars' strength and symptomatic of the spectacular racing they serve up.
And his verdict? 'Absolutely loving it,' enthused Allard. 'It's definitely a challenge. Bangers is a lot less work than in Saloons.'
Two weeks on from winning his first meeting final in saloon stock car racing, Marham youngster Jake Banwell was at it again – the teenager hit the front early on and pulled clear of the more experienced racers behind to score another victory.
'Any race win is a good race win,' said a delighted Banwell.
With this year's World Championship being held at the venue later in the season, Banwell is starting to attract attention as a potential dark horse, if he manages to secure a place on the grid for the big race.
However, the 17-year-old is keeping his feet on the ground, playing down his chances. 'I'm only a yellow top,' he stated, referring to the grading system within the sport, where he is ranked in the third tier.
Norwich's Casey Englestone came third in the final, while King's Lynn track champion David Aldous (Diss) scored two race wins on the night.
The Bangers were also in action. Almost 100 cars were split across two classes, Micro and Two-Litre. Swaffham's Terry Garrod started the defence of his National Points Championship crown with second and fourth places, leaving him fifth in the early standings. Brother Ashley was a race winner on the night, while Ely's James Ellis was twice victorious.
