Lowestoft Town turned in an impressive second half performance to stretch their unbeaten run in the Ryman League Premier Division to 12 matches last night.

The Blues struggled to make an impact before the break against their promotion rivals and went in 1-0 down after conceding a soft goal on the stroke of half-time.

But whatever the management team said during the interval had the desired effect as the visitors started to take control and it was no more than they deserved when Lee Smith rounded off a slick move to equalise on 66 minutes.

Both teams had chances to win it after that but a draw was probably a fair result, with the hard-earned point maintaining the momentum ahead of Saturday's mouthwatering home clash with leaders Whitehawk.

The Sussex side beat Cray Wanderers 2-0 last night and are now 17 points clear of Lowestoft but they played have six more games and a win at the weekend would put the Blues right back in the hunt for top spot.

The game got off to a bright start last night but most of the action was in midfield and there were few clear-cut chances. The visitors were some way below their best and were aiming to get in a half-time on level terms when disaster struck, their defence completely switching off as a cross was confidently despatched by Jason Hallett.

To their credit Lowestoft responded to that setback in impressive fashion, playing with a passion and intensity that delighted their followers, and they got back on level terms when Jack Defty flicked the ball to Chris Henderson who in turn found Smith to finish in impressive style.

The Blues nearly won it near the end when a low cross from subsitute Joe Francis was almost turned into his own net by a Concord defender while at the other end a home player failed to despatch a free-header when a third goal looked inevitable.

The Blues remain unbeaten in league action since losing 2-0 at Lewes on November 20, with seven wins and five draws keeping them in the promotion picture despite suffering a string of postponements.
