U18: Norwich City 2, Ipswich Town 0
A goal in either half from strike partners Kurtis Byrne and Kris Renton was enough to give City all three points at Colney today in the season's first East Anglian derby.
City keeper Steve Arnold was quickly called into action making a double point-blank save as Town looked to make an early impression.
The Canaries' first opportunity came when Renton just failed to connect with a through-ball while defender Paul McLean saw a header from a Jamie Eames corner go just wide of the target.
Town went close with efforts from Luke Webster and Jordan Rhodes but it was Norwich who broke the deadlock on 34 minutes with City's new manager Peter Grant keeping a watchful eye on proceedings. Renton won the ball before playing it off to Eames whose right wing cross was met on the far post by BYRNE who fired the ball past Andy Plummer in the visitors' goal.
City continued to push forward and Plummer needed two attempts to collect a free-kick from Damon Lathrope shortly before the break. Into the second half and City should have extended their lead when Luke Daley failed to hit the target after Byrne floated a delightful ball to the far post while moments later Daley went one-on-one with Plummer after a flick-on from Renton but the Town keeper made a comfortable save.
