City of Norwich Athletic Club's under-15 girls team have retained their national cross country title.
Conac sent a team of runners to the Saucony English National Cross Country Championships at Nottingham's Wollaton Park and it was the U15 girls who again took centre stage.
Just as the club's U15 girls had done at Castle Donnington last year, the team title was claimed, after more than 420 competitors had taken part in an extremely muddy U15s race.
With each club's top four finishing places being combined to make the club team score, Conac U15s were led home by Nelly Porter, who finished in an excellent 14th position.
A fast finishing Meredith Winship was in 38th position, with training partners Kate Willis and Ellie Taylor engaged in a race-long battle, before finishing just one second apart in 49th and 50th positions.
Porter and Winship were also part of the team that won the title in 2016, alongside Emma Hunter and Katie Goldsmith.
Conac's U13 girls team also did well, securing fifth place as a team, with Grace Jermy in 30th position, Grace Forster in 64th, Maddie Short 80th and Holly Bunn 92nd out of the 467 finishers.
The event was the final club cross country event of the season, which saw Conac's U15 girls win team gold in the South of England Cross Country Championships and Cross Country Relays as well as team bronze medals in the National Road Relays.
David Pring, who coaches the U13s and U15s, said: 'With Storm Doris having added to the water levels at Nottingham's Wollaton Park, Conac athletes arrived to find one of the toughest cross country courses they have faced for some years, with most athletes facing at least six challenging muddy and water laden obstacles in each race.
'Having overcome some pre-race nerves, the under-15 girls again proved to be the best team in England, retaining their national championship title.'
Other notable individual performances for Conac – which has over 700 members – came from Will Mahoney, finishing 28th in the U15 boys event, and Jack White, 27th in the U17 men's race.
Danny Adams led home the U13 boys team in 41st place, of the 458 finishers, and Rachel Bruce with 39th in the U17 women's race.
