Feltwell-raised Ironman star Chrissie Wellington will be part of the first all-women's team in the Trois Etapes Tour in the French Pyrénées next month.

The pro-am cycling event is being held between Thursday, August 7 and Sunday, August 10 and will feature the four-time Ironman champion.

The series was established in 2011 by Cosaveli and has raised over $4.5million for a range of charities, with each team supporting a different charity.

Wellington explained: 'It consists of teams of eight riders, each with at least one professional cyclist competing over some of the most challenging cycling terrain in the world. As with pro cycle road races, each team has a support car with director sportif and race radios.'

The team 37-year-old Wellington will ride for the team led by US professional cyclist Evie Stevens.

'Our team will be raising funds and awareness for World Bicycle Relief,' Wellington said. 'Together we will tackle some of the most gruelling climbs in the Pyrénées with the aim of raising funds to mobilize women and girl students in rural Africa and promoting the advancement of women's cycling around the world.'

Other famous names include former Team Sky rider Michael Barry, former Olympic and world champion Nicole Cooke and Norfolk cycling star Emma Pooley.

Wellington added: 'For me, participating in the Trois Etapes is a dream come true. Over the past year, I have also been working, with others, to try to push through change and reforms in women's cycling, including the creation of a women's race at the Tour de France.

'The creation of the first all-women's team at the Trois Etapes is a visible celebration of female participation, passion strength and success in cycling.'
