Maybe I spoke too soon and perhaps in hindsight I might have come across as over-confident in last week's column.

The gaffer (Gary Setchell) keeps saying we're good enough to win every game we're involved in and although we know that's not going to happen, we have to believe we are going to take something from every single game we go into.

Sheffield FC on Saturday was always going to be a tough fixture and to get the points we wanted from the game we knew we had to perform at a certain level. I don't think we did.

We were unlucky not to score ourselves with us hitting the woodwork three times, but if I'm being honest the home side deserved the three points and you won't find any excuses from me.

Despite what felt like a fairly even 20 minutes we never got into any sort of rhythm and conceded sloppy goals – one from a set-piece, which is frustrating as we do a lot of work on the training ground defending these. The other came from the penalty spot, which happens I guess.

On the day I thought our best performer was Peds (Alex Street). If it wasn't for him it could have been more. He made two or three fantastic saves and was in my eyes our man of the match, which I guess tells its own story.

To make the day worse Dunks (Russell Dunkley) picked up a calf strain, which is a big blow as he is an important part of our side. Let's hope Phil (Ward, physio) can work his magic on him.

I know we have a couple of suspensions coming up with Watto (Ross Watson, starts Saturday v Daventry) and Quigz (Dan Quigley, started Tuesday v Carlton and ends on Saturday) so we will need every member of the squad fit and available over the next few weeks.

Losing our 100pc record was disappointing, but football always gives you another game and opportunity to get performances and results like Saturday out of your system. Hopefully we did just that with a positive result against Carlton on Tuesday (I'm writing this before the game).

Away from match day activity, I'm learning the gaffer never passes the opportunity to run the lads up. With our game off against Brigg last Monday he had us in on the Wednesday.

Horseshoes and box-to-box running were on the menu, both of which had to be done in 23 seconds. I still haven't worked out where he comes up with his figures, but I know they are on a few of our limits – well everyone's apart from Streaky's (Ryan Fryatt's) actually. That lad can run and his dad (Neil, first team coach) still gives him the look as if to say he was too slow!

It was a good session and even Turns (Jason Turner) made it for a bit of keep ball at the end, which is good. All I know is I wouldn't want him as my postman if it takes him until 6pm every night to finish his round!

Away from football quickly, I want to quickly congratulate Watto on moving into his new house. I might buy him a couple of my mugs out of the club shop as a moving in gift (and to help with my sales).

Looking ahead, we're back in FA Cup action at the weekend against Daventry Town in the first qualifying round. It will be another really tough fixture as they're a team I know all about being only 20 minutes down the road from me.

This gives me a bit more of a lay-in on Saturday, which is a cheeky bonus. But once we're there we'll all be switched on because we want to do as well as possible in this famous cup competition.

With some good performances, and a bit of luck along the way, anything is possible. But first, we'll have to win our battles all over the pitch to earn the right to play. If we do that, then we stand a good chance of being in Monday's draw for the second qualifying round.
