Norwich City Ladies ended an excellent season on a disappointing note when they were beaten 1-0 at home by champions Gillingham in the SE Combination League.
Needing a point to finish second, City went behind with 20 minutes remaining at Blofield and although they then threw everything at the opposition they just couldn't carve out the goal they needed.
City have shown with their efforts this season that they will be serious title contenders next term, and joint manager Emma Fletcher reflected on the positives after the game. 'It has been a long hard season and the girls must hold their heads high,' she said. 'Obviously we wanted to finish second but we must not forget what we have achieved. The girls will have a well deserved break and then come back more determined than ever next season to go one step further.'
