Boxing Day at Beccles Amateur Sailing Club saw a healthy turnout of boats on the water and many spectators enjoying mince pies and teas from the shore. With the sun shining and light winds of up to 5mph, the one race of 4 rounds was hardly eventful but nevertheless it certainly was a pleasure to sail, especially after such miserable weather on Christmas Day. Richard and Mathew Deller in 'Cuddles' led from the start to finish in 1st place. Glen and Rowan Curtis who were making a maiden voyage in their 1950's Firefly 'Laughing Gravy' secured 2nd place with Richard and Caroline Baylis in their Enterprise only a few seconds behind making a good race of it. Sue Grief cruised round in her Norfolk 'Brambling' to come in 3rd on handicap and with Rob Gilchrist and crew Ollie Baylis retiring in 'Red Alert', the last applause of the day fell to Mike and Shirley Roll in 'Yarebeat'. Prizes of wine and sweets were issued by B.A.S.C. new Commodore 'Richard Deller' in the clubhouse who also offered thanks to all who helped out, especially to Jonathan Blankley who filled in as Officer of the Day at short notice. Club members now enjoy a four-month lay up to prepare boats for the new season, which commences on April 5th with Series 'A'.
