King's Lynn Town chief Gary Setchell insists the Linnets can claim another Conference Premier scalp after landing an FA Trophy last 16 home tie against either Stockport County or Southport in early January.

Town shocked AFC Telford 3-1 at The Walks on Saturday to prolong their fairytale run in the country's blue riband non-league cup competition. The lowest-ranked club left in the draw now await the outcome of tonight's replay between former Football League clubs Southport and Stockport before hosting the winner on January 12.

Setchell's squad have dispensed with five higher-league opponents so far but the Town manager knows it will take another herculean effort to keep alive their Wembley dream.

'Lynn usually get one of these games every five years and we now have two in the space of a month. It will capture the imagination,' he said. 'It's a great draw. There was one or two horrible draws there for us in the sense if we could have got a Step Two side away from home. But to get another Conference Premier side at home is massive. We've had five higher-league scalps, so the question is can we get a sixth one? If we re-produce the levels we did against Telford then the opposition are going to have to play well to beat us.

'If you were in the last 16 of the FA Vase with this group of players you would probably say Wembley is a possibility, but this is the FA Trophy. There are 14 or so sides more highly-rated than us, but this is sport and we have an unbelievable set of characters who are not afraid to win. If we can get through the next one and get a home tie you never know.'

Stockport, managed by former Peterborough boss Jim Gannon, have the more recent Football League pedigree, but Setchell has no personal preference.

'Funnily enough when Chester or Worksop came out in an earlier round we were desperate to get a big day out but Worksop beat them and then we beat Worksop so I suppose it doesn't really matter,' he said. 'They are both next to each other in the table, but obviously Stockport were only in the Football League a couple of years ago and Jim Gannon has gone back after they were managed by Dietmar Hamann. Telford was a huge game and now this one, in the last 16, is a ridiculous situation to find ourselves in. Along with Skelmersdale we are the lowest ranked side left in the competition, but we were before the last round as well.'

Setchell's immediate priority is bringing his troops back down to earth for Saturday's Evo-Stik Division One South home test against Sheffield FC after one of the best days of his fledgling managerial career.

'Every win in this competition has been my best. The highs and the lows are something else,' he said. 'I had a terrible week after we lost to Hucknall because I do live it and so do the players.'

• Town last night confirmed the departure of striker Jason Turner with the 31-year-old citing the need for regular first team football behind his decision to leave the Linnets.
