Beccles Town Swimming Club – Kingfishers – collected their first win of the year and with it their first piece of silverware.

It was at their home pool that Beccles stole the show in the final round of the Suffolk Winter League to win the C-League overall and also pick up the best supported club.

Beccles went into the final round 11 points behind second place Felixstowe giving them plenty of work to do in order to take the league winners' trophy.

But a full strength squad along with a night without any disqualifications meant they were always on the front foot. Over the course of the night 20 new personal bests were achieved, showing how determined each swimmer was to finish the league off with a win.

In the youngest age group 11/u their were new bests for all four swimmers: Max Beevor in breaststroke and backstroke, likewise team-mate Ollie Woodcock in freestyle and butterfly.

For the girls it was a tale of two Sophies, Sophie Long put in an impressive swim winning her butterfly and gaining a best in freestyle; likewise Sophie Thurtell gaining a new time in her backstroke event.

In the 13-and-under group two trios combined to keep the pace going. The boys saw Elliott Fenn bring home a win in breaststroke, Henry Barnes then followed suit in butterfly and backstroke, as did Ross Barnshaw in freestyle.

For the girls Nina Howell picked up a PB in a close backstroke race and Hannah Barnes gained a PB and first place in her freestyle.

Rhianna James completed the trio with maximum points in her butterfly and breaststroke races along with new times in both.

In the 15-and-under, the deadly duo of Nina Bircham and Jenny Beevor took home maximum points, Nina won backstroke and butterfly, likewise Jenny in her breaststroke and freestyle. Not to be outdone, for the boys Dalton Yallop stormed through in his freestyle and then backstroke races to gain two new PBs followed by Robert Thurtell who won butterfly then breaststroke and gained two new times.

For the seniors, the open events saw strong swims from boys' captain Tom Taylor followed by Will Pye and Lawrence Lowman. For the girls Eleanor Chick gained another first place for the club in her breaststroke event, likewise Pascale Reeves winning her butterfly and freestyle followed by a strong swim by girls' captain Louise Shepherdson in backstroke.

The club finished the night completing the whole Winter League season without a single disqualification and the league win has further built on the club's successful start to the year.

Final league results: 1 Beccles 792 points, 2 Felixstowe 768, 3 Hadleigh 631, 4 Lowestoft & OB 570, 5 Saxons 149.
