Dreams of an outing at Royal Ascot may be over, but an appearance at Newmarket's July Festival could be on the cards for Alba Power following his victory at Yarmouth.

After finishing second behind subsequent Chesham Stakes runner-up Nyaleti at Salisbury on his debut, Hugo Palmer's charge built on that display when taking the Riverside Rentals Of Norfolk Novice Stakes by half a length, to initiate a double on the card for James Doyle.

Palmer said of the 5-1 winner: 'Very early on we dreamed this might be our Coventry horse. It's taken longer than we have hoped with him this season. Hopefully this is the start of something for the rest of the season.

'I don't think he would want the ground too fast and when they took the soft out of going I nearly scratched him, but now I am glad I didn't.

'If it rained and turned the ground soft then we might have a go at the July Stakes, but with the new system in place we might run him in another novice to teach him a bit more.'

Having captured two of the most prestigious prizes at the Royal meeting last week, Doyle did not have to wait long to complete his brace after Cribbs Causeway continued her own purple patch when completing a hat-trick of wins in the Voice Of Racing Day Fillies' Handicap.

Doyle said of the Roger Charlton-trained even-money favourite: 'It took time for her to wind up in the straight, but she picked up well. She is one on the way up.

'I should think a mile and three-quarters would be in her compass, but while she is winning like that it may help to stick at a mile and half.'

David Simcock was on hand to celebrate a double of his own, highlighted by the victory of Auberge Du Lac (5-1) in the feature Grosvenor Casino Of Great Yarmouth Handicap.

Although finding the soft ground at Doncaster not to his liking last time out, the son of Lope De Vega left that effort behind when forging on late to take the mile prize by a length and a half.

Simcock said: 'He will get better and improve for racing. He is a lovely horse. We got bogged down in soft ground at Doncaster where we quite fancied him.

'He ran very well at Ascot on his first run of the year and Jamie (Spencer) gave him a really good ride and looked after him. I think he is quite nice.'

Horsted Keynes (5-2) showed he still retains plenty of ability when ending a winless streak stretching back to April 2014 to get the ball rolling for Simcock in the Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park Of Lowestoft Handicap.

Simcock said: 'He is an old boy that needs a lot of work and he has been so consistent this year so it is lovely to win with the old lad.

'He wouldn't want it to soft, so that fact that it dried out was good but now he is that bit older he probably appreciates that good ground.'

John Ryan praised the riding skills of 7lb claimer Jack Osborn after Chunkyfunkymonkey (9-2) went one better than at Brighton on Tuesday when running out a length winner of the Racing Welfare Handicap.

The Newmarket handler said: 'He ran a blinder at Brighton, but like at Goodwood he probably hit the front too soon. Jack rides him at home and I told him to hold on to him as late as possible. He gave him a great ride.'
