The sailing eagerly anticipated sailing season began on Saturday afternoon at Beccles Amateur Sailing Club.

A fleet of 20 boats were on the Waveney to vie for the RNLI Pennant and the Poyser Cup, with new boats this year including Dave Elliot's lightning 368, Jonathan Blankley's RS200, Simon Swann's GP14 and Mark Langston's new streaker.

With a high tide and gusty northerly OOD Glen Curtis oversaw a long beat up to a gybe at four followed by a run to the bridge mark.

Langston picked the right path through a frantic first start and finished more than two minutes ahead of Nigel and Abbie Shipley in Norfolk Herewego.

Jake Shipley in his laser Mr Angry recovered well from a capsize to finish third. Race two saw Rory Kelsey and Georgie Roll in enterprise Evil Edna over on the start giving Harry Shipley in laser H a clear run, just doing enough to take the win from Langston with Herewego a strong third.

A mix of topper and optimist helms were equally matched for the Poyser Cup, with strong performances from Rowan Curtis, Poppy Roll and Rachael Folkard all enjoying the conditions, although George Curtis in his optimist Bittern proved uncatchable to take both wins on corrected time and the top of the leader board.
