Royal Cromer professional Lee Patterson sealed a successful season at the Thetford winter pro-am series when he shared top honours at the championship meeting with a level par 72.

In four appearances he was the joint winner on two occasions, the runner-up once - and on his fourth outing he returned an unmentionable score!

But it spurred him on: 'I was determined not to make such a mockery of a round of golf again. This time we played on a lovely day, almost summer-like conditions, and I went out with a determined plan to play conservatively. I only hit my driver four times and used my one-iron the rest of the time.'

The result was steady play, which included two birdies - but there could have been many more. Patterson hit the cup on four consecutive holes without any of the putts dropping and on a fifth occasion he lipped out for eagle.

'I was really happy with my putting, which I haven't been for a long while. But I didn't think my score would be good enough to win, I felt I'd left five or six birdies out there and that could have been costly given the quality of the field.'
