The sun made a timely appearance for the girls to show off their finest fashions on Ladies' Night at Great Yarmouth where champion jockey Paul Hanagan took the riding honours with a double.

The sunshine provided a glorious Norfolk sky at one point during the evening, which was more than appropriate as the Chris Wall trained three-year-old filly named Norfolk Sky duly obliged for the champ in the nine-furlong handicap.

Hanagan, who recorded his first Group One success in England at Newmarket on Saturday, rode an expertly judged race in the soft ground and steered Norfolk Sky home at 8-1, by the shortest of short heads from Goodie Goodie and joint favourite Thecornishcowboy.

And Hanagan was the man again when he completed a double half an hour later in the feature race, winning on 7-4 favourite Spirit of the Law for trainer Ed Dunlop in the 10-furlong Adios Handicap.

Hanagan never looked in trouble and led from very early on to win by almost three lengths from Tilsworth Glenboy and Miss Blink.

Old adversaries Kieren Fallon and Jamie Spencer thrilled the crowd in the opener. Spencer pushed through with what looked like a well-timed winning run on the Michael Bell newcomer Huntsmans Close but Fallon was having none of it.

On trainer Luca Cumani's Makafeh, Fallon timed his run superbly and got up cosily to win the seven-furlong sprint for two-year-olds by half a length.

The winner, returned at 5-1, had finished fifth on debut at Newmarket but had clearly learned much from that first-time effort.

Sir Henry Cecil's Disclaimer, under Tom Queally, finished a close third in a good quality race.

Spencer had to wait a further 90 minutes before getting his victory. His mount, One Kool Dude, in the five-furlong dash, was returned 9-4 favourite and Spencer held on well to register the chestnut gelding's first win in what was his 18th attempt.

Spencer always looked the winner and made all to beat Ooi Long, the Mark Rimmer trained Great Yarmouth regular ridden by five-pound claimed Toby Atkinson.

The seller, over seven furlongs, provided a tight finish with the spoils going to in-form Mick Channon's yard.

His colt Warrant Officer prevailed by a neck under stable jockey Martin Harley to foil favourite backers.

The winner, returned at 4-1, beat Blades Rose, the 15-8 market leader, under Hanagan for trainer Richard Fahey and ever-popular Hayley Turrner on Strawberry Duck, who finished in the first three at the track for the third time.

In keeping with what had gone before, the six-furlong handicap was decided by a neck, last time out Thirsk winner Novalist doing the trick again.

Jean-Paul Guillambert was on the Robin Bastiman trained gelding who did well to hold on to beat Represent. Represent, with Harley bidding to double up for both himself and Channon, tried to snatch it close home, but Novalist held on, the first two having pulled well clear of the third-placed, free sweating Anjomarba.

The finale, over a mile and three-quarters saw an impressive win for the David Simcock trained News Show ridden by Martin Lane.

Lyric Poet looked to have every chance but was squeezed for room on the rails and joint 3-1 favourite News Show took full advantage to comfortably from the Fallon-ridden Quixote. The next meeting is on Tuesday, July 24.
