Dimitris Giannoulis has penned an emotional farewell to Norwich City after his departure from the club was confirmed this week.

The Greek international formed part of the Canaries' released and retained list and will depart the club on a free transfer with his contract not being renewed.

Giannoulis would have been open to talks had Norwich gained promotion via the play-offs, but the financial reality of another year of Championship football has seen him depart the club alongside Ben Gibson, Sam McCallum and Danny Batth.

He played 103 games for the Canaries since his move from PAOK in 2021, which was initially a season-long loan but became an obligation to buy upon promotion to the Premier League.

Giannoulis was a popular figure among City supporters and held the club in high esteem, thoroughly enjoying his spell in Norfolk.

Writing on his social media, the left-back expressed his gratitude to the fanbase and those responsible for bringing him to England as he reflected on his spell at Carrow Road.

"Hello Canaries,

"It’s time to part ways after 3,5 years. A period of time that helped me evolve both as a person and as a football player. We suffered, laughed, failed and succeeded together and this means a lot to me. I wish this end was celebrated with a promotion but things didn’t go as we all wanted.

"This doesn’t change anything. The feeling playing at Carrow Road with the lads, with the yellow and green shirt, in front of this amazing fans. I have no words to express my gratitude for everyone in the club. Coaches, teammates, staff. So, I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. It was a hell of a ride.

"Take care, Dimi"

Giannoulis is not expected to be short of interest this summer and is being monitored by a host of Italian clubs, with opportunities in Russia and back in Greece also expected to emerge for the 28-year-old.

Norwich are expected to target two left-back options as they seek to fill the void vacated by Giannoulis and McCallum's departures.
