David Wagner will use calmness and a strict process to navigate Norwich City through the Championship play-offs.

That's the experience of Mark Hudson, who was part of the Huddersfield Town side that was victorious in the play-offs in that famous 2016/17 campaign led by Wagner.

Norwich face Leeds United over two legs and will be underdogs for the tie - but Hudson has offered an insight into how Wagner will prepare the players to overcome the challenge and find victory, just as he did with that Terriers side.

"When they were 17th, there will have been a lot of noise behind the scenes, a lot of media and unease, but the fact he has already turned that around within a season and the players are 100pc behind him and have brought it, kicked on and seen that it has worked," Hudson told the Pink Un.

"That is always a good thing. We weren't the in form team, but we knew we could grind in and have players win games.

"We knew that we might have spells where we didn't have the ball. But the constant process meant we were ready for that. There will be lots of words around belief.

"There will be a calmness throughout the week and David won't want them to be too emotional too early."

Hudson was a key part of that Huddersfield side, even though he was a substitute throughout their play-off campaign.

He recalls the depth of the preparation and extent that Wagner and his coaching team, including Christoph Buhler, went to in order to gain promotion. Key to it will be utilising the experienced core of the squad and sticking with their process.

"They've got plenty of experience with Hanley, McLean, Barnes, Duffy, Batth and Stacey - there is a good core group there that knows what it takes, and that is just with the playing group.

"With David and Christoph, the knowledge they've got and experiences they've had, not just with Huddersfield but in other countries, they will be calm," Hudson said.

"They will know the process they've worked through over the season is what will work for them. There isn't a lot that you'd want to change and unsettle. That isn't how David works.

"He'll be focused on a good week. They will be fully focused on what they can do and how they can exploit Leeds."
