David Wagner has ranked Angus Gunn top of the pile of goalkeepers in the Championship after another impressive display against Bristol City.

The Norwich City shot-stopper produced a string of fine saves to rescue the Canaries from defeat on an off-colour afternoon at Carrow Road last weekend, once again underlining his importance to their cause.

Gunn boasts numbers that rival only Leicester's Mads Hermansen and Carl Rushworth of Swansea in terms of shot-stopping. Statistics show he has prevented more than four goals over the course of this campaign.

In the fine margins of high-stakes matches, Gunn's quality is a massive asset, and that was graphically illustrated by an excellent double save, culminating in pushing Scott Twine's close-range effort wide.

That prompted Wagner to describe Gunn as the Championship's best stop-stopper post-match, an assessment plenty of City supporters will agree with.

"Gunny was outstanding today," Wagner said after Saturday's draw with Bristol City. "To be fair, he has been more or less the whole season.

"He, for me, is the best goalkeeper in the league. This is the truth. Today he has shown why this is my opinion.

"(The double save) was top, yes. But he had a further couple of great saves in this game. He was top class in this game."

Gunn was one of the primary reasons why Norwich emerged from Saturday's under par performance with Bristol City, even though the point pushed them closer to securing their top-six place.

Wagner felt low energy levels were a cause behind that flat display, but urged supporters not to over-analyse the situation at this point in the campaign.

"This was our 50th game of the season if you take the cup competitions as well. It shouldn't happen but it did happen," Wagner said.

"We have to make sure we perform better and are more energetic in the next games. Then we go again. I will not make this performance bigger than it is, especially at this stage of the season. This doesn't make any sense.

"Be happy about the point but be honest about what went wrong. That is how I approach it, especially when you are in a position like us. You came from the position that we came from, to makes no sense to make it bigger than it is if you were able to earn a point."
