Former King's Lynn Town player Joe Taylor has been named Sky Bet League One's player of the month for March.

The 21-year-old - on loan at Lincoln City from Premier League Luton Town - registered six goals and a cheeky backheeled assist in five games as he helped Lincoln score an incredible 17 goals. His first senior hat-trick against Bristol Rovers showcased his instincts, pace and strength in equal measure.

Lincoln boss Michael Skubala said: “Joe deserves this award for the work he puts in on the training pitch every day - he’s improved as a player throughout his time at the club and has been rewarded with the goals and accolades.

“But he knows he needs a team to score and, while he’s the one whose job it is to put it in the back of the net, he’s also shown his willingness to work for the benefit of the whole team and do whatever is needed as part of the game plan.”

Taylor, who had spells with Swaffham, Wroxham and home town club King's Lynn Town, where he made just one appearance, said: “I’ve loved every second of my loan at Lincoln City - the players, coaching staff and everyone around the club has been brilliant and that has been reflected in the performances and results.

“Everything about the club is working for me at the moment. The fans get the LNER Stadium rocking on matchdays, and really get behind us on the road, so this award gives me an extra confidence boost going into the final games of the season.”

Sky Sports’ EFL pundit Don Goodman said: “Joe Taylor is a young player who is making a real name for himself in League One. Lincoln are one of the form teams in the division and have made a real charge from mid table to the brink off the play offs, with Taylor playing a big part of that.

“He scored six goals in five games in March, including his first senior hat-trick. He will be hoping the goals continue as his team make a late push for promotion.”

Taylor beat off competition from Derby's Ebou Adams, Charlton's Alfie May and Reading striker
Sam Smith.
