Adam Lakeland praised experienced keeper Paul Jones as King’s Lynn Town took another step towards National League North safety.

A 1-0 home win over play-off chasers Chorley owed much to the brilliance of the 37-year-old stopper, who saved a second-half penalty – and then kept out the follow-up effort.

“That's what he's paid to do,” said Lakeland. “He's paid to make saves. There's been a lot of games where he's not had much to do, but on the occasions when he has been called upon, he's usually equal to it.

“I've stood here before and said he's been outstanding since I came to this club, both on and off the pitch. He's a top guy, he's a model professional and some of the saves that he makes - his detail to his preparation. He's been he's been superb.”

With Kyle Callan-McFadden having headed Lynn ahead from a corner early in the second half, it looked like Chorley had found a way back into the game when they were awarded a spot-kick, but Jones denied Jack Sampson from 12 yards and then kept out Justin Johnson’s follow-up.

“It was a great double save - disappointed that it wasn’t one of our players to the ball first, but he's got up and made a big second save and we got another well-earned clean sheet.”

It took Lynn’s recent run to one defeat in their last 14 games.

“I'm just so proud of the players for the amount of effort and work that they've put into the game because it was a tough game against the good side, a scrappy game, very competitive,” said Lakeland. “We knew it would be a tight game and that set plays would be important because they're very, very good from them, particularly corners.

“We managed to execute one of our own corners and in tight games set players are massive and usually the difference and thankfully we were the ones who scored it -clean sheet and a big three points.”
