Leicester City 3-1 Norwich City: Championship player ratings

Angus Gunn

Kept the visitors in the game at times in the first half despite a lack of saves to make. Shepherded Patson Daka away from goal when he went through with just the Scot to beat, and endeavoured to help his team play out from the back.

Not much he could do about any of the goals, with Leicester's dominance inevitably ending in chances their superb attackers finished ruthlessly. 6

Jack Stacey

Struggled to cope with Stephy Mavididi's tricky feet out wide and only rarely provided the attacking thrust he's become known for in recent months.

Squandered that attacking opportunity with a tame left-footed shot after good work to find himself in the box, and naively jumped at Mavididi who flicked easily past him before firing into the corner.

Left exposed defensively by Enzo Maresca's system, which dragged him inside and left Mavididi with plenty of room to work with. 5

Jacob Sorensen

Replaced by Shane Duffy less than 10 minutes in with a hamstring injury. Another blow in the severely unreliable fitness department for Sorensen. 5

Ben Gibson

A solid offering from the centre-back, who had little help from Sam McCallum on the left side of defence but made a series of blocks and tackles nonetheless.

Foiled Wilfred Ndidi when he went through on goal and looked far more comfortable in possession than second partner Shane Duffy, albeit struggled to progress the ball with poor movement in front of him. 6

Sam McCallum

An afternoon to forget for the left-back, who failed to take his improved Plymouth Argyle performance with him to the King Power.

Outstripped time and again by Abdul Fatawu, occupying a strangely narrow position when the ball was on the Norwich right despite being burned several times by the winger's bag of tricks. Also absent offensively, an aspect he's often thrived in. 4

Marcelino Nunez

The best Norwich player on the pitch despite his copious game time in the last week. He had started three times in six days, but had all the awareness and verve of a player fresh from pre-season.

Looked the closest thing they've had to a defensive midfielder since Oliver Skipp's departure, making tackle after tackle and digging Duffy out of a significant passing-out-from-the-back hole after he surrendered possession in his own final third.

Precisely found Sara for the opener, and moved the ball quickly whenever the chance presented itself. Substituted midway through the second period with the weekend's derby in mind. 8

Kenny McLean

Couldn't add enough to Nunez's considerable dam to stem the flow of home chances on a difficult afternoon for the City back seven.

Forced to do a lot of defending and little on the ball as his side sat behind it and attempted to soak up pressure. No clear errors or weaknesses, but a game in which he was fairly absent. That's rarely a good thing for a central midfielder. 5

Gabriel Sara

Good movement for his 11th goal of the season, but also looked absent in a game where creative outlets were desperately needed by David Wagner's men.

Clipped one pass inexplicably out for a Leicester throw-in and his attempted connections with team-mates looked frustratingly disjointed. 6

Ashley Barnes

Worked hard defensively and did almost as much as he could to help the attack, but didn't have the service or the territory to combine as effectively with Josh Sargent as he often has.

More regularly seen with his back to goal and only centre-backs to pass to than anything resembling creative options ahead of him. Arguably one of Norwich's best defenders on the afternoon, however. 6

Borja Sainz

The only Norwich player who looked capable of sparking any sort of counter-attack, highlighting their problems without Jonathan Rowe and Onel Hernandez in these rearguard-focused games.

Broke into his favourite inside-left position a handful of times but got shots off just twice, seeing both of those efforts blocked. Lacked both support and service in his strangled attempts to drag his team up the pitch. 6

Josh Sargent

A thankless task to chase balls down and make something of nothing up front, although at times he looked off the pace in duels and wasteful in possession.

Got his head to a Sara corner but couldn't keep it down. Little else worth mentioning. 4

SUBSTITUTES

Shane Duffy (on for Sorensen, 10)

Defensively not a bad performance, but his shortcomings were obvious in a shaky 88 minutes. His first action after replacing Sorensen was to lose the ball, and that set the tone.

Caught out on multiple occasions as he attempted to play out from the back, prompting Gunn's obsession with finding Gibson and the lopsidedness that created. One impressive clearance when Leicester looked certain to equalise.

Will have to improve his distribution here on in. 4

Liam Gibbs (on for Nunez, 66)

A standard shift that included a lot of chasing. One fairly poor cross that amounted to nothing, but drove forward and found Sara well before the Brazilian's cross was blocked. Will have done him good to play in his best role. 5

Christian Fassnacht (on for Barnes, 66)

Pressed well and won the ball high up, but didn't do much with it. One such occasion highlighted this perfectly, with Sara in space but the Swiss selecting the easier pass to Stacey and the attack fizzling out. 5
