Christos Tzolis insists his sole focus is getting Fortuna Dusseldorf in the promotion shake up to the Bundesliga, after another goalscoring brace for the Norwich City loanee.

The 22-year-old struck twice to put Fortuna 2-0 up in a Bundesliga.2 trip to Hannover at the weekend, before the hosts hit back to earn a draw.

Tzolis has now plundered 13 league goals in 21 appearances, since David Wagner sanctioned his Carrow Road exit at the start of the season.

The Greek international is under contract to the Canaries until 2025 but struggled to make any real impact, with only six league starts following his big-money move ahead of the club's Premier League tilt in 2021.

But 17 goal assists this season have seen him touted with potential summer interest from German top flight sides Borussia Monchengladbach and Wolfsburg.

Fortuna negotiated a reported €5m buy option in the original loan deal, amid recent claims in his native Greece Dusseldorf would exercise that option before cashing in if they fail to go up.

Tzolis’ immediate priority is getting back on the goal trail, with Fortuna four points outside a play-off spot, ahead of Friday’s home sell out against Hamburg.

“I'm having a lot of fun here at Fortuna and I'm also in good shape. I'm having a really good time here with the boys and the whole staff. And we still have a few games left and I hope that I can continue my form,” he said. “We have to be fully focused.

"Sold out house (against Hamburg), a very big, a very important game for everyone. We are ready for it, but we have to be better. Anything can happen in the second division. But the thing is - we have to win games. If you don't win, you can't hope for promotion. But if we win, we can say: We are in the race.”

Tzolis’ weekend brace showcased his pace and finishing ability on the counter.

“I can’t celebrate my two goals if they aren’t enough for us to win,” he said, in his post-match round of interviews on Saturday. “Of course I'm personally happy about it, but I'm not happy with the result. That's very disappointing.

"Not just for us, but also for our fans who came here especially. It's really frustrating - we controlled the first half, lead 2-0 and could have scored even more goals. And in the end we only get one point – that’s unbelievable.

“We were really positive and we had a few great chances in the second half. But we made it too complicated. And if you don't score, you give the opponent chances. And then we were unlucky with a deflected shot to make it 2-2.

"After that goal, Hannover played more and more into it, we just defended, just wanted to keep the score 2-1 and had no structure any more. The bottom line is that the 2-2 was a very bad result for us.”

City chief Wagner reiterated before the busy Christmas period Tzolis’ Norwich future is a topic for the end of the season.

“First and foremost, we hope he can stay healthy. And secondly to continue performing like he has done as an individual and as the team as well,” he said. “Maybe they can win promotion. Nothing is bigger for a player like this, and then when the season comes to an end, or maybe even after the season, we have to make a discussion about this, but not earlier.

“I’m very happy to see what Christos is doing because you can imagine that I was a little bit involved in the loan to Germany, where I always thought, ‘Okay, this is the right place, this is where I'm quite sure, and confident, that they can accelerate his career again’.”
